Fetch

Early Ethereum wallet and exchange aggregator with one-click trades.

TL;DR

Fetch was a self-custodial Ethereum wallet and exchange aggregator that made finding and trading tokens simpler. I joined as a software engineer in 2019 and built wallet and trading features in TypeScript and React, including the Uniswap integration.

About Fetch

It’s easy to forget how horrible Ethereum’s UX was in 2019. Early decentralized exchanges asked a lot of their users: find a market, compare prices, manage a wallet, and work through several smart-contract transactions to make a trade. Fetch put those steps in one app, with a one-click transaction design that ran the sequence of contract calls behind a single action.

The wallet found users’ token holdings automatically and compared live prices across 20 exchanges. It shipped as desktop and web apps, then as a browser extension in May 2019.

Our longer-term ambition was to become a regulated brokerage for tokenized stocks, bonds, and other securities, but we never got there. Fetch shut down in early 2020, as described in the team’s closing note.

My role

I joined the three cofounders and worked mainly on the React frontend: the wallet and trading experience, turning what the protocols could do into features people could use. I built the Uniswap integration, adding a second source of prices and liquidity to a product that had started with 0x relayers.

Reflections

Fetch was a short but important bridge from fintech at Neighborly into Ethereum-native products. Building products on Ethereum in 2019 was hard, and it showed me how much friction developers faced as well as users. I took those painful insights into ethereum.org, where developer onboarding and documentation became a central part of my work.

Fetch also reinforced a hard lesson from the Neighborly startup grind: when it comes to survival, being early is the same as being wrong. We bet big on a security token wave that didn’t come for another seven years. Wild and satisfying to see tokenized stocks finally come to fruition in 2026. Better late than never :)
