HabitaAR
Helping newcomers navigate life and institutions in Argentina.
TL;DR
HabitaAR is a navigator for setting up life in Argentina: a knowledge base covering residency, healthcare, housing, banking, Spanish, and community, plus hands-on consulting for people who want a plan and someone to guide them through it. I cofounded it in 2026 with my wife, Sofía Ramos, who runs operations and user success. I lead product and engineering.
Stranger in a strange land
I live in Buenos Aires, and it’s obvious I’m not from here. As an American (Yanqui) I’ve had to figure out how things work firsthand: residency, housing, healthcare, banking, and taxes. Did I mention learning Spanish? HabitaAR was born out of those frustrations :)
For a decade I built software in virtual domains where the rules could be made explicit. I worried much less about the messiness of meatspace until I had to navigate it myself: long lines, language barriers, conflicting answers, and wide gaps between the rules on paper and how things actually work.
HabitaAR bridges those worlds. We automate what we can and make the rest transparent, so people get set up faster with fewer surprises, and the institutions behind the bureaucracy become more legible and accountable.
Why it matters
Argentina is an immigrant country. At the 1914 census, nearly 30% of the people living here had been born abroad, twice the share the US ever reached. That enormous wave has passed, but the flow never stopped: the migration office granted roughly 135,000 to 200,000 residencies a year between 2021 and 2024, and the 2022 census counted almost 2 million foreign-born residents, about 4% of the population. Every one of them worked through more or less the same systems I did.
The flow is growing everywhere. A 2026 study in Nature estimates that global migration rose from about 13 million people a year in 2000 to around 35 million in 2023. Remote work, digital nomads, and nomad visas like the one Argentina launched in 2022 all point the same direction: more people moving, more often, with less friction. Migration built Argentina, the US, and all of the Americas, and I want to help people take part in it.
